What is PMC?

Precious Metal Clay© (PMC) is a unique form of silver or gold that allows artists, like me, to form and sculpt metal by hand. Initially, it is a soft and pliable clay made of fine silver or gold particles in a water soluble organic binder. PMC clay becomes metal when fired in a jeweler’s kiln at high temperatures. The result is a beautiful and unique piece of handcrafted jewelry that is made of pure Silver (.999) or Gold (22K).

Some of my PMC pieces are silver with 22K or 24K gold accents. This is pure gold that was “painted” onto the silver and re-fired in the kiln so that the gold and silver fuse together on a molecular level. It will not flake off like cheap gold plating.

PMC is environmentally friendly! The silver is reclaimed from exposed film and the gold from old electronics. Also, no harsh chemicals are needed, the organic binders are non-toxic, everything washes up with water, and nothing is wasted.
